Sustainability.
FSC Standards
While we appreciate the industry we work in isn't "environmentally friendly" by it's very nature, at Oak & Almond, sustainability is very important to us and our work.
We proudly use FSC-certified timber, ensuring that our materials are responsibly sourced and support forest conservation efforts.
FSC Certified means it has been harvested from forests that are responsibly managed, environmentally conscious, socially beneficial and economically viable. ‘FSC’ stands for the Forest Stewardship Council , a global non-for-profit organisation: their certification is effectively the gold standard for sustainable timber products.
Minimising Waste, Supporting Local
We build all of our cabinets ourselves in our Brighton workshop (a repurposed dairy farm milking parlour), meaning fewer miles and a lower carbon footprint.
Whenever possible, we source materials and products from smaller local companies. This minimises transportation-related emissions and also enables us to nurture our partnerships with local economies.
In addition, we recycle and reuse as much of our off-cuts as possible. We have a waste timber burner, which heats our workshop in the winter and our sawdust goes to make cozy bedding for some of the farms smaller animals. Any offcuts that cant be used for samples or in other projects we give away on a local facebook page. These often get taken by local artists, hobbyists and students.
